Random Graphs and Complex Networks

نویسنده

چکیده

In this first chapter, we give an introduction to random graphs and complex networks. We discuss examples of realworld networks and their empirical properties, and give a brief introduction to the kinds of models that we investigate in the book. Further, we introduce the key elements of the notation that is used throughout the book.

Recent Progress in Complex Network Analysis: Models of Random Intersection Graphs

Experimental results show that in large complex networks such as internet or biological networks, there is a tendency to connect elements which have a common neighbor. This tendency in theoretical random graph models is depicted by the asymptotically constant clustering coefficient. Moreover complex networks have power law degree distribution and small diameter (small world phenomena), thus the...

Generation of Random Graphs with Prescribed Degree Sequences

The study of complex networks plays an increasingly important role in science. One common feature of complex networks is that they are large. Probability theory offers a highly effective way to deal with the complexity of networks, and leads us to consider random graphs. Most practical use would require some property constraints on random graphs, usually with given degrees. There are several wa...

A review of "Random graphs and complex networks" by Hofstad

Overview A random graph is a collection of vertices and edges connecting pairs of them at random based on edge probabilities (Newman et al. 2001; Hatano and Mesbahi 2005). The theory of random graphs was introduced by Erdős and Rényi (1960) to give a probabilistic construction of a graph with large girth and large chromatic number after discovering that, in graph theory, probabilistic methods a...

Random intersection graphs and their applications in security, wireless communication, and social networks

Random intersection graphs have received much interest and been used in diverse applications. They are naturally induced in modeling secure sensor networks under random key predistribution schemes, as well as in modeling the topologies of social networks including common-interest networks, collaboration networks, and actor networks. Simply put, a random intersection graph is constructed by assi...

Robustness of Random Graphs Based on Natural Connectivity

Recently, it has been proposed that the natural connectivity can be used to efficiently characterise the robustness of complex networks. Natural connectivity quantifies the redundancy of alternative routes in a network by evaluating the weighted number of closed walks of all lengths and can be regarded as the average eigenvalue obtained from the graph spectrum. In this article, we explore the n...
